Activities: (Business Subject)

Following activities were done by the students of 1st to 9th in the academic year 2015-16

Kaizen

1.

This year, it was decided to teach Kaizen from the 1st standard onwards since Kaizen demands a behaviour change which is difficult to bring about in just a couple of years. Accordingly, topics of health and safety were taught to students from 1st to 4th. As part of the subject, students took out a rally in Wai city, informing citizens about the importance of safety and following traffic rules. Students also performed skits informing students from other classes about the importance of safety and healthy life.

2.

The entire school area was divided between students of class 5th to 7th and they not only made Standard Operating Procedures for these areas, but also took responsibility of maintaining those areas and kept a record for the same.

3.

Different activities like making pen stand, articles from ice-cream sticks were conducted to teach Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD) to the students.

Students of class 7th were taken for a factory visit as part of the Kaizen exam where they were supposed to find practical implementation of the concepts learned

Students of class 6th were supposed to make good quality Bhel, with optimum cost and in the shortest possible time to demonstrate their understanding of QCD and make profit.

Problem Solving

1.

Problem solving was taught this year to class 8th students starting with simple riddles, small detective stories, then gradually increasing the complexity to human issues and real life situations.

2.

As an evaluation of the problem solving methodology, both practical and theory tests were conducted. In the practical test, students were supposed to perform some tasks like crossing an imaginary river with limited resources, building the tallest tower with available resources. Team performance was also evaluated.

3.

In the written test, students were supposed to find solutions to given problem scenarios and also find cause and effect relationships and point out assumptions.

Computers

1.

Computers were also taught to students from 5th standard starting this year.

2.

Students from 7th and 8th were found to be adept in using computer games, MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and surfing the internet to gather information.

3.

9th and 10th standards were taught the ICT (Information Communication Technologies) as per the syllabus prescribed by the SSC board (State Board). It was seen that the students performed the practicals very well.

Business Processes

1.

As a part of the subject of business processes, students from class 9th were provided a capital of 100 rupees to start their own business and run it for a month. They were asked to return the capital after a month and keep the profit to themselves.

2.

The businesses which students started were – selling Appe (an eatable snacks), sweetcorn, tea, bhadang, decorative articles etc.

3.

All groups made profit. The highest profit earned was 350 rupees.
