At Bharat Vidyalay, we understand the role of NGOs in education and lay great emphasis on the overall development of the students. We aim not just for academic excellence, but also to develop employability skills, a problem-solving attitude, an art appreciation, and confidence to express one’s opinion. With this end in mind, a lot of different extracurricular activities are conducted throughout the year.
• Kaizen for improving productivity is taught through different projects. Factory visits are conducted to experience the first-hand implementation of ideas in Kaizen.
• Problem Solving is taught as a formal subject to inculcate a balanced approach toward resolving problems.
• Business Processes are taught to the students wherein students survey existing businesses, come up with their own ideas of how to do a business, actually run a business for a month, and earn profit.
• Self-defence training is conducted for adolescent girls from class 7th to 9th.
• Participation in various district-level competitions for sports including running, kho-kho, stick fighting, etc. is encouraged.
• Participation in various art and craft competitions and in the Elementary and Intermediate drawing exams is encouraged
• Use of computer from 4th class is promoted. Basic computer handling and taking the curriculum to basic coding is integrated.
Visit to Post Office
Students from 1st to 4th standards visited general post office at Wai to understand working of the post office and staff. Officers at the post office gave a historical background of postal services in India to students. Students have come to know that the postal services started first by the British in India. Officers have also informed the students about importance of communications, past and present methods and ways of communications. Students have seen post cards, inland letters, stamps, seals etc. available in the post office. Post box was curiously seen by the students. Students have asked various questions about delivery of letters in a vast country like India, to which, the officers have informed the students about PIN Code system and how it functions practically.Training for Teachers
Indian Institute of Science Education And Research Centre, Pune (IISER): Teachers from Bharat Vidyalay have participated and successfully completed the training programme which was conducted by IISER for one year for mathematics and all streams of science. Teachers have started applying new methods/ skill of teaching and learning in their daily classes and students are benefited by the same. IISER has arranged science exhibition and our students have participated with two projects and models in this exhibition. Students have got a good exposure of the science exhibition and they have enjoyed the same.Inspired Award
The Government of Maharashtra organized a competition for school children to inspire them to work in the field of science and technology. In the competition, school students have to select a subject and prepare a scientific model for the subject. The government gives Rs.10000/- towards expenses for preparation of model. Our following students have participated in the competition after selected by the Government. Five students have participated in the competition out of which 4 students were selected by the government of Maharashtra. The students have enjoyed the competition.Visit to Biscuit Factory at Satara MIDC
students from the 4th standard visited factory of Parle Company. Parle is the largest manufacturer of biscuits in the world. Officers of the company took the students to production line and have explained manufacturing process of biscuits. A video clip about the work of the company was shown to the students. The students enjoyed the visit and returned home with a new learning.Election Process
Students enthusiastically participated in the whole election process. Volunteers have informed them about right to vote and its importance. Students have also understood how democratic institutions for example parliament (Rajyasabha & Loksabha) and election commission of India function. Students came to know that right to vote is a fundamental right of a citizen under the Constitution of India and to cast vote is a national duty of citizens.Banking Activity
Students from 6 & 7th standards have visited Satara District Co-Operative Bank Ltd., branch at Wai to collect information about bank transactions and functioning of the branch. The branch manager welcomed the students and provided information about types of bank accounts, procedure for opening of accounts, loan accounts, schemes related to fixed deposit receipts and overall banking operations of the branch. The visit was very useful for the students and the students carried out the activity of banking operations in the school.Business Activity
students from 7th standard have divided them in 5 groups for carrying out 5 business activities. Each group decided its activity and prepared plan of the business activity, including capital, requirements for manufacturing, loans to be taken from school bank etc. these groups have given their loan proposals to the bank established in the school. The groups have opened their bank account in the bank. The bank, after verification of documents, sanctioned and granted loans to these groups. The groups have carried out their business activity in the school premises. At the end, the groups have calculated the amount of profit earned after making payment of all expenses and bank loans and have distributed residual profit among themselves.Arts Day
Every year 28th February is celebrated as science day. The school, in addition to the science day, celebrates, 28th February as “Arts Day”. Every subject can be taught in an art form. Complex subjects especially science and mathematics could be taught with the help of art. This will help the students to understand these subjects appropriately. The object behind celebrating “Science Day” as “Arts Day” is to provide an opportunity to students of the school to celebrate science day in a different manner, particularly in the art form. Preparation for celebration of the Arts Day starts at the end of January. Volunteers have given various themes and subjects to students for making presentation on new scientific and technologies ideas in the art form.Following activities were done by the students of 1st to 9th in the academic year 2015-16
